  • Welcome!

A hearty Willkommen to you and your child to an exciting year of learning about the German language and culture. It is with great anticipation and joy that I look forward to teaching your child this year.

Research has shown that the study of foreign languages provides students with tremendous academic advantages by helping them develop superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills along with deeper understanding of their own and other cultures.

My name is Silvia Weir and I am a native from Berlin, Germany. I am very proud to teach my language and my culture to your child.  I have been working in education for twenty years. I have a Master in Education degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and a B.A. in World Language Teaching (German and French) from Eastern Illinois University. I also have a B.A. in Business from the Freie Universität Berlin.

I moved to the United States with my husband Terry and my children Nicole and Travis in 1991. I live in Marshall, IL.

I currently teach German 1, German 2, German 3 (dual credit with Ivy Tech) and German 4 (dual credit with Ivy Tech) at Northview High School. In previous years, I have also taught German 1 to 8th graders at North Clay Middle School, and a 7th grade Exploring World Cultures and Languages class at North Clay Middle School.

I am also the World Language Department Chair and the sponsor of our German Club. This is my 11th year teaching German in Clay Community Schools.

A positive educational experience is achieved only through the cooperative efforts of students, parents and teachers. Thank you for your contribution to this important process.

Your questions and concerns on these (or any other) topics are always welcome!  I look forward to working with you this year!
