Mission Statement

To work with community and families to create lifelong learners who are communicators, collaborators, creators and critical thinkers to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Vision Statement

To engage the community and develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders in order to provide high-quality, authentic learning opportunities for the students of Meridian Elementary.

Connection between Mission/Vision and Indiana's Priorities for STEM Education

1. Refine STEM Pedagogy with Research-Based Best Practices

Mission Connection: Our mission emphasizes creating lifelong learners who are communicators, collaborators, creators, and critical thinkers. Research-based best practices in STEM pedagogy naturally align with this mission. By implementing inquiry-based learning, problem-solving, and hands-on activities, we not only teach STEM subjects but also foster the skills mentioned in our mission.

Vision Connection: Our vision to engage the community and develop relationships with stakeholders can be enriched by adopting research-based STEM pedagogy. By involving local STEM professionals and organizations in curriculum development and as guest educators, we can ensure that our teaching methods are both cutting-edge and relevant to real-world applications.

2. Develop STEM Leaders and Educators

Mission Connection: Our mission to create "leaders of tomorrow" directly correlates with this priority. By investing in professional development for our educators in STEM, we are ensuring that our students are receiving high-quality instruction that prepares them for leadership roles in STEM fields.

Vision Connection: Our vision to engage the community extends to developing relationships with higher education institutions and STEM organizations. These partnerships can provide valuable training and resources for our educators, turning them into STEM leaders within the community.

3. Increase Access to STEM Courses, Programs, and Resources

Mission Connection: Increasing access to STEM courses and resources ensures that we are creating "lifelong learners" and "critical thinkers." By making STEM education accessible to all students, regardless of their background, we are fulfilling our mission to create a more equitable learning environment.

Vision Connection: Our vision to provide "high-quality, authentic learning opportunities" is directly met by increasing access to STEM courses, programs, and resources. By collaborating with community stakeholders, we can secure funding, materials, and expertise to make these high-quality STEM learning opportunities available to all students.

In summary, Meridian Elementary School's mission and vision are inherently aligned with the Indiana Department of Education's STEM priorities. By focusing on these areas, we not only meet state requirements but also enrich our educational environment, fulfilling our promise to students and the community.
